Metal Covenant - http://www.metalcovenant.com
With an album titled Let Me Be Your Tank, the germans in Final Breath
deliver a nice little attack in form of a mix between thrash and death
metal. You just got to love that title, and it suites perfectly as this
is hard and heavy and won't stop for nothing. Although they have
existed since 1993, this is just their third album, and the first one
that I have stumbled over.
They have much in common with legendary Kreator, but they are also
flirting to the left and right with other styles within the realms of
thrash and death metal music. There are traces of Swedish death to be
heard, not particularly with Entombed but the singing from Jürgen
Aumann is not far from L-G Petrov. And with a distinguished taste for
guitar based melodies, the similarities can be drawn towards American
styled thrash/death bands like Slayer and Grip Inc.
Final Breath know how to play fast and how to do it well, without
letting it get carried away too much. With grinding guitars and
blistering drums they lead you forward with a great taste for leads and
solos, which many times are in the vein of Slayer and often equally
good. They have the ability to combine fast and aggressive death with
thrash melodies and never letting it become to strenuous to listen to
by keeping a melodic touch to it all, not least with many harmony parts
that are really tasteful. And when they keep the speed restrained as in
the heavy title track Let Me Be Your Tank, they get a nice groove going
that brings out some great Slayer vibes.
Two of the tracks are re-recordings from their debut album Flash-Burnt
Crucifixes (2000), and I can't say that they differ anything really
from the others. There is continuity in the tracks that hold together
the album really well, just like the production which is splendidly
done.

Third album of these German death thrashers. It begins with a nice
cover and the knowledge that this album also comes as a limited one
with a bonus CD with over 75 mins. And now the music. Is it also
interesting? Yes I think so. After an intro that deals with nothing the
tank get rolling. Aggressive vocals, forcing drums and thrashy guitars
with nervy leads. Up tempo songs with the necessary breaks to
accelerate. Def not an album that wastes your precious time. Listen!.

Final Breath reach the third album with this release. I didn't knew
that the band was with their last album in the Nuclear Blast roster but
unfortunately (or fortunately?) they end up with Remedy Records, to
release their new album with the title "Let me be your tank", strange
title don't you think? But the best part in this release is the very
good music, that with generosity Final Breath offer to us.
Musically the band has two main influences, the thrash metal and the
death metal. The music can be desrcibed as Thrash metal , while the
vocals are mostly with a death metal approach. All the songs are based
on the guitars and that's why we have a lot of guitar solos and very
nice guitar riffs. Also the rhythm section is very good.
I don't know why, the band decide to re-record two tracks from their
debut album and they put them in this one. The tracks are : "Exposed to
hatred" and "Sociopathically Insanse". Personally in the forty five
minutes I had a great time with their music and I hope I will have the
opportunity in the future to hear their previous works too.

Ah finally, a decent thrash record! Final Breath hails from Germany,
and play Thrash metal in the vains of Kreator, Slayer, The Haunted,
spiced up with some hints of death metal like Dew Scented for example.
The band got together in 1993, but it took 7 years before they released
their first full album Flash-Burnt Crucifixes. This cd got followed up
by Mind Explosion in August 2003. A year later the band released its
latest offering, Let Me Be Your Tank. It took a while for this cd to
find its way to Metalrage, but we'll review it nonetheless!
The disc starts of with a typical crunchy metal intro, soon to be
followed by the song "Strong Pain", one of the faster tracks on the
disc. When "Eyes of Horror" begins the tempo drops a bit. This song has
a great mosh-riff halfway trough and some shredding guitarsolo work.
"Greed of Revenge" pumps up the speed and has a very catchy guitarlead
during its chorus which actually made me remember it. More great
guitarwork combined with some tempo changes finish of this song.
Time for my favorite song of this disc; "Empty Eyes". This one has
basically every ingredient a good thrash song needs. The opening riff
is just insane, and I love it when there are some riffs following up
eachother quickly. Some bands tend to exploit a decent riff way to
much, and Final Breath really knows how to grab you by your nuts and
drag you through this tune. Unfortunatly "Exposed To Hatred" is a bit
more of a standard thrash affair. It's also a re-recording of an older
song of the band. The titletrack is one of the more groove-orientated
songs of this album, and starts with a nice 80ies guitar and drumintro
before the main riff kicks in.
The speed gets turned up a few notches again for "Bemoaned Animosity".
If this track doesnt get your head banging you're probably more suited
to listen to the latest Good Charlotte cd. Vocalist Jürgen sounds alot
like a little higher-pitched Marco Aro (ex-The Haunted) in this
song..but maybe thats just me.
Time for another older tune called "Sociopathically Insane". I like
this one much more than the other older song, it has some very fast
riffing and some cool guitar+doublebass hooks. Nice job by drummer
Heiko! "Coma Divine" is a worthy closer of this excellent metal record,
a catchy main guitar riff and thunderous drumming would be two keywords
for this song.
Final Breath might sound a bit standard because of the genre of music
they play, but Let Me Be Your Tank delivers 100% quality metal. If you
are looking for an experimental metal band, look elsewhere. Final
Breath is about pissed-off vocals, tight and fast drumming, excellent
guitarriffs and solos. What more do you want?

Despite a hokey album title Final Breath's Let
Me Be Your Tank is actually a cool metal listen. The band encompasses
all the elements of underground metal and does it well. The song Empty
Eyes is quite close to Death, but otherwise the band mixes that style
with the sounds of Dew-Scented, Naglfar and others. The vocals are
harsh, gruff and with a limited range, the solos present and viable and
the rhythm fast and hard. There is a great guitar solo, for instance,
on Exposed To Hatred which is mixed with the pounding riffage. There is
also a great lead on Strong Pain which leads to a practiced rhythm
change. In general, heavy and tight rhythms and fanciful guitars are
the band's best feature. Add that to the urgency and power and Final
Breath sounds better and better. - Ali "The Metallian"
